Courtney's Bold vision for

Small Businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of District 4. We must prioritize and invest in locally owned businesses that reflect and serve our diverse community, rather than corporations that lack a true understanding of how everyday customers strengthen and sustain the neighborhoods they call home.

  • Create targeted programs and funding for entrepreneurs of color, women‐owned, veteran‐owned, and disabled-owned businesses, including mentorship, networking, and access to capital.

  • Introduce legislation to protect small businesses from external cost shocks, such as the Trump tariffs and supply chain disruptions, and propose relief mechanisms such as a refund for costs incurred when these shocks occur.

  • Propose increasing the allowable deduction for business start‐up expenses, or offering a tax credit, so new enterprises face fewer financial hurdles when launching.

  • Offer tax credits for small businesses that provide predictable scheduling and benefits.
